Title: Day1 40:29S 173:08E

40:29S 173.08E @ 0830 NZST

Had a fast run out of the gates for the first 25nm then the wind died and we've been wallowing in growing seas. But, the sun is shining without a cloud in the sky, and the view behind us of snowy mountains peaks is stunning. The night before we left Nelson all of the surrounding mountains had a dump of snow, and if ever there was a signal to leave at the onset of winter then that was it.

Kids are between seasickness and full of energy, so today is the settling down day.

We'll have this sea and lack of wind for the whole of today and then hopefully pick up a steady westerly for the rest of the way up to North Cape.
