Today was a s*** day. Forward toilet blocked
solid, and pressure back in
the pipe forced Colin to spend 3 hours or so with
head down the toilet and
in the bilges taking out various bits of pipe and
valves all which were
horribly blocked. And I mean
horribly!
Took out one section of pipe between the Y-valve and the
seacock
and swung it against the hull outside. You should have seen the
stuff that
came out. Calcium deposit, just like we'd been told about,
had almost
entirely blocked the pipe, and came out in great
chunks.
With great help from Giles the job(bie) was complete and a swim
woudl have
been nice!
Now very satisfying to pump the loo. Runs
like a dream.
Note to self: always carry a set of Y-valve
spares.
Observation 5 - Water water everywhere....
As Fred Astaire once
sang, 'I joined the navy to see the world, and what did
I see, I saw the
sea'. Thankfully the sea and the sky have been an ever
changing spectacle,
and sunsets, shooting stars, moonlit seas have provided
an absorbing backdrop
to dolphins, flying fish, and what we like to think
have been boobys and
frigate birds. Also, Led thinks he saw a whale. Ant who
was next to him
didn't see it, but anyone who has seen Ant's spec
prescription will
appreciate that this in no way undermines Led's claimed
sighting.
We
have plenty of water to drink and cook with, but a combination of
limited
electricity (and hence limited water making) and overzealous clothes
washing
has led to a new, improved water regime. Washing is frowned on, and
so we
now have dirty bodies in clean clothes.
