Lovely day for running aground. A bay with an inner bay, in splendid scenic surrounds. Entered with intent to anchor, but there was noone there and it looked a little boring with not much for Bosun. The alternate was the
tiny harbor (single pontoon), so we went for a look. As we approached, it looked like a restaurant with a small pier might be perfect - we'd tied up at plenty of restaurants before - nope. It must be admitted at this point that we had no detailed charts ...
I'd mistakenly assumed that when we got to Turkey I could download them, for the Raymarine chart plotter - nope. Piracy (software type), means that a supplier has to sell you a physical card, and we wouldn't be able to get one until Kos (next stop). So when
approaching the restaurant, we ground and shuddered to a scraping halt. Time for a cool swim to check for damage. Not too bad. One keel with a leading edge ding in it, the other still afloat. Revved the engines harder than they've ever been, to no avail, no
backing ourselves out of this one. Fortunately a Gullet in the harbor saw us and motored across to give us a tow off. Big engines on these fellas, so we ground off in a few seconds and motored to the harbor, looking like twits, then looking for a beer! Gave
Mr Gullet guy 100 Euro and a hearty thanks for his timely intervention - we weren't stuck long enough for anyone to get any photos, which they would later have archived as "plonkers get their boat stuck on rocks".
Lovely place - Bosun enjoyed some long walks off the lead, and chasing the odd chicken. More nights would have been good, but 2 had to do, as other places called. Still cool, but perfect skies.
