22nd January 2006 Sunday,
Tyrell Bay, Carriacou.
We didn't have lessons this
morning, but instead drove to the mangrove swamp and rowed into it. The
entrance was peppered with pelicans, some sitting on sandy bars, and some
gliding around looking like pteradactyls (sp?).
The girls climbed into the
mangrove during a squall, and Mimi trod on a rotten branch and very nearly
plunged down inbetween all the long spindly roots, encrusted with mussels and
crabs and seaweed...Luckily she has monkey ancestors and did a very quick double
handed grab onto two other branches, and ended up swinging there in
mid-air! Chris and I rescued her in Bob, and she was
trembling...
We saw a very annoyed green
heron in there, and lots of fish jumping into the air.
We are now all tired out
and back on board, about to enjoy an enormous 'lomster' as Otti calls them,
delivered by a fisherman called Roberto.
