Playa Blanca, Lanzarotte, 18th October 2005
Motored 30 miles today, much against boat policy, but have to catch the flight back to the UK on Thursday.   We passed huge black wedges of lava, sloping into the sea, ten miles across, created in 1730.   There was a six year erruption here, classified as the largest in known history, which wiped out half of the farm land.   Tomorrow we are going to a volcanic powered restaurant for lunch, before coming back to pack.
It still feels very strange to have left all the boats in Graciosa, who waved us off this morning.  We are now tied up in an incredibly swanky marina,  complete with designer shops and restaurants, feeling slightly culture shocked after Graciosa, which was almost medieval.
