Leaving the mainland of Italy via the bay of Naples; next
stop hopefully Sardinia
I found Italian food rather disappointing, unless you like pizzia
(which I don’t) the rest is rather dreary.
The women are either fat or scowling (or both), and the men seriously
unhelpful.
No wonder they and the Greeks are in such financial trouble, they are so lazy the
result is inevitable.
They say they are open 09:00 to 13:00 and then from 17:00 to 20:00 ; reality is
10:00 to 11:00 and 18:30 to 19:00.
They’re very nice but useless. We tried to go to Pompeii by train but sadly they
were on strike so we went by bus which was fine. Pompeii itself was not just a
pile of ancient rocks ½ way up a mountain and quite good really, fortunately our
guide was cardiac cripple and walked very slowly. His knowledge was bit shorter
than of his mouth, but nonetheless quite brief.
In Salerno there are hundreds of restaurants mostly the same
but on our last night we fell into another
a crap “pizza” place just outside the
marina which in fact had live Scottish lobster and langoustine (nearly dead)
which were superb. I had 3 large langoustines and C declined the lobster in
favour of squid and octopus; wish we had been there earlier.
