Fireworks were going off all over the place as we made our approach into Whangarei Harbour. Clearly our arrival is something to celebrate but it seemed a little excessive, after all Caramor isn’t royalty. Then the penny dropped, Kiwis were celebrating Guy Fawkes Night!

At 9pm Caramor touched Q dock at Marsden Cove, beautifully steered in by David. We are back in New Zealand! Back on dry land!

We can’t go anywhere tonight because we haven’t been cleared by immigration and quarantine (too late) so we had a shower onboard and a glass of something.

Tomorrow the officials will visit Caramor and we will head up the Hatea River to Whangarei around 11am, with the rising tide.
