11TH MAY, HILTON HEADS

We anchored just off the Harbour Town Marina. Frances, Gino and their children Luca and Cora joined us on the yacht the following day. We pottered around with a gentle sail and took the dingy to a beach so that the children could have a run around. Lunch on board. Unfortunately the weather was not playing ball and we had a thunder storm with rain. We got a bit wet in the cockpit due to the fact we have very badly made bimini and dodger made by ‘Advanced Covers Ltd’ in Southampton, UK. They leaked the first time it rained and we were assured, ha, ha, by the maker and our project manager that once the cotton had swollen they would no longer leak!!! we were so fed up with arguing with them by this time and how badly made they were and we needed to get a move on and out of the UK. Four years on and we have had enough so are getting them re made in the USA. The short story is that anybody commissioning a yacht do not use them to make covers, they haven’t a clue……Discovery Yachts take note do not use them.

We had, needless to say, a lovely time with Frances, Gino and the children and it was good to have long catch up, hopefully once they have moved back to the UK we will see more of them when we are there.

The following day we rented bicycles and had a great time cycling almost the full length of the island and also cycled along a beach with hard sand which stretched for 12 miles, we came off it and explored the numerous cycle paths making our way to Skull Creek Marina, Jonathan was a tad sore near the end as we cycled for miles. Its a beautiful resort island, with fabulous beaches, golf courses and houses.
