Around the world with the Aqualunies

We returned to Aqualuna on the 8th June. Spent a few days setting her up again. The diver replaced an anode on the prop’. The yacht was beautifully clean above and below decks thanks to Cheryl and her team at Catamaran. We switched on the engine but the prop made a terrible noise so we sent down the diver to check the anode was on properly, so we hauled out to have the prop removed and replaced a warn cutless bearing. We got the yacht back into the water at the end of the day. After Mark Clinch very kindly drove us to Epicurian in St Johns to stock the yacht with supplies, he came and joined us for supper on board, Amanda was away in the U.K. We eventually set sail on Jonathan’s Birthday after going around to English Harbour to refuel, the harbour was very quite and not many yachts around as most had either laid up for the season or returned to the USA or Europe, see first photo.
As it was just the two of us sailing we set up a watch of 4 hours on and 4 hours off.
Our engine glitch appeared again, we switched of and sailed in 15 knots of wind. Jonathan disconnected the 2nd throttle control as the message came up that it was causing the problem. Still the alarms on and of. Sometimes the engine worked perfectly other times the alarms would go off and the engine would rev’. On the night of the 18th we had pink showing on the radar ahead and to the east heading west, it was a mass of thunder storms. We switched on the engine and headed south and did a clockwise circle to circumnavigate the storm and head around it. We managed this quite successfully although our track looks a bit like a drunk snail as we headed around the various thunder storms. See photos.
We arrived in Bermuda in the early morning and came alongside the customs pier to check in to immigration. We then went to anchor in St. George’s Bay and caught up on sleep and cleaned up the yacht, we went out for dinner that evening in St. George’s at ‘Wahoo’. quite good although my fish was quite dry.
Friday 22nd June, we walked to St. Catherine’s beach and had a lazy morning swimming and reading, lunch at Tobacco Beach watching the fun of sea volley ball. Walked back through St. George’s and visited one of the oldest houses see photos, learnt about the water catchment they have on every house going into water r collection. Back to the yacht to find a message from our weather guru, Chris Parker, to leave as soon as possible as a northerly front was coming down and would hit us as we crossed the Gulf Steam, the idea was that if we left now we could get across the Gulf Stream before the front arrived. Consequently we checked out straightaway and never made it around to Hamilton this time.
