WHANGAMUMU HARBOUR  11TH - 12TH APRIL, 2013

A beautiful sheltered bay with crystal clear water.  On the north side is an old Whaling station, very sad to look at it and think of the carnage that went on there until about 1920.
Perfect weather the following day for a walk with a picnic lunch to the top above the whaling station.  A good hike up hill to the top great for the heart! we were rewarded with some spectacular views from the top looking out over Cape Brett to the North East and down the coast to the south.
We set sail the following day to round Cape Brett into The Bay of Islands passing the Hole in the Rock (Piercy Island) on our starboard, birds flying, fish jumping and we caught a couple of fish a Tuna and Kahawai.  Meanwhile whizzing through the hole in the rock were tourist boats out for a thrill.
We dropped anchor for lunch in Okahu passage between Okahu Island and Waewaetorea Island very shallow so could not go nearer the beach which looked divine.
We then continued into the bay off Russell as the weather was going to deteriorate over the next few days with a strong North Easterly wind.
