We left St. Thomas at 10.54 to sail for the Spanish Virgin Islands. Wind 10 -12 knots.
1505 dropped anchor in Ensenada Honda on Culebra island and checked in at the American immigration at the airport nearby. No hassle at all and very easy. Went ashore to the ‘Dingy Dock’ for a sundowner and to catch up on emails etc.
Following morning sailed around BAHIA FLAMENCO a lovely beach behind reefs which we had to find our way through, too rolley and anchorage to stay overnight. No food kiosks or bars there as advertised in the guide book they must have all gone during the hurricane Maria in 2017.
Lovely walk and then a snorkel on and off the beach.
Set sail at 13.30 and dropped anchor behind Isleta Marina off the east coast of Porto Rico.
We tried to get into a marina so that we could either rent a car or taxi for the following day and spend a day or two in San Juan but all the marinas were ‘Full’ including the largest marina in the Caribbean……. We took the dingy to have a look at one marina which was owned by an OCC rep’ she said it was fully booked it is called ’Sun Bay Marina'. Most of the spaces were empty, docks run down, nobody around in marina offices, we may have been able to squeeze onto the end of one dock in 10’ of water but it was really in bad repair and the whole area appeared to be in recession.
