24TH APRIL, 2019 MARIA LA GORDA

We picked up a buoy near the diving centre at 7.30 pm. No Garda came out to check us and we did not go ashore. We were near the wreck of a Canadian classical yacht (looked more like a modern pirate boat) and were told by another yacht that the boat was wrecked ashore a few months ago and the Canadian’s insurance company were having battles with the Cuban government about the amount to be paid, apparently the government want a huge amount which the insurance company are unwilling to pay. The Canadian owner of the yacht has tried to leave Cuba three times and each time stopped at the airport by the Garda.

We left the following morning at 6am before we had to pay the mooring fees and have the Garda visit.
