29TH MARCH, 2019 LAS SALINAS, REPUBLIC OF DOMINICA

Murky, dull, grey weather, motor sailed most of the time as the wind was only 5.3 knots.
As we were entering Salinas we noticed two large fish farms which are not on the chart, we noted their position for pilotage which is:- 18 13.5N 074.34W the cruising guide for this are does not note them.

We dropped anchor having found our way in through quite shallow water off the hotel in Salinas Bay which was lovely and sheltered. The cruising guide told us that we should go to the hotel for the next Dispatcho. We took the dingy the next morning into the rather rotten dock off the hotel only to be told that Jorge who deals with it was not in until after midday but that we should go to the watch tower on the spit and get one from there. We dinged over there and were able to get one. Back to the yacht and we set sail for Baharana on the other side of the large bay, we had a champagne sail in beautiful sunny weather.

We sneaked in between the reefs and dropped anchor behind a sand spit piece of land near what looks like a sugar cane factory there was a bit of a suphoric smell in the air.
We were boarded by three officials to check us out, no politeness about taking shoes off wearing their hobnail boots, but we can’t say anything as they can make life difficult for you if you upset them. They looked at our passports photos taken of them and the yacht, all smiles, a beer for each and then Jonathan had to take them back to land as they had come out in a fishing boat.
Supper and slept. Photos will follow later but sending this on iridium so no photos for the moment.
