SAINT MARTIN Tuesday 18th - Saturday 23rd February

We had a great dinner with Budgie and Barbara in Jolly Harbour. Having set up the yacht with food etc.
Set off for St. Barts the following day. Awoke on Friday that week feeling as though I had been rolled over by a Steam Roller.
Temperature way up, aching all over, no appetite. Went to doctor in St. Barts. I had suspected Dengue Fever.. Spent most of the weekend feeling very sorry for myself and very, very tired.
Rash developed on the Sunday. Bloods taken on Monday.
Sailed for Saint Matin on Tuesday as J needed a new part for the higher voltage water maker. I am slowly improving after huge doses of Vitamins C and Panadol. Still get tired easily but the appetite is beginning to improve.
We are still here waiting for the part for the water maker to be fitted but the ‘expert ‘ is busy and still hasn’t been able to come…….. at least, I suppose, its given me a chance to rest up.
The anchorage is not brilliant, very choppy and not much shelter from the wind and squalls. We have been taking the dingy into the Lagoon when we want to go ashore.
I’m hoping to be recovered enough to be able to continue this particular sailing adventure. Must be very careful not to be bitten again as a second bout of Dengue can cause worse problems such as internal bleeding.

Saint Martin or Sin Matin is an island divided between the French and Dutch. It is nowhere near as pristine as St. Barts. So many yachts and boats half under water still in the lagoon left over from the hurricane that hit 18 months ago, cafes and walkways on the french side are still to be renovated although they have got on with this on the Dutch side. It is not my favourite island.
