MAY 24th 2010  HUAINE ISLAND, TAHITI

We rented a jeep with a guide to explore some of the island last week with the Dobsons and Donald.  Mary and Allan left the boat on Friday to continue their holiday in Bora Bora.  On Friday night we, along with many others from the BWR organised a surprise party for Peter of the yacht Perequina as it was his 60th Birthday.  We had a secret channel to speak on we all did some cooking for various dishes.  Blue Magic provided the music, the restaurant we used as headquarters provided the space.  Peter arrived with his wife Margie expecting to be going out for a quiet pizza, we all hid in the dark and lights went on and we came out with one of the hotel staff presenting him with a lei (flower necklace and head-dress) He couldn't speak and first and then gave a very emotional speech which was lovely.
The next day we sailed around to the next door bay, which was crowded and very noisy with a boom box on the beach.  We left at 6 p.m. to set sail overnight for Huahine arriving at 7 a.m. motoring all the way as there was no wind.  Bought bread from a supermarket in Fare inside the reef that surrounds the island.  We then motored up inside the reef to the furthest bay, through crystal clear water with lots of coral heads.  Fortunately the channel was well marked and there was just one very narrow section where we had to squeeze through between underwater coral heads.  The coastline had white sand beaches and palm trees with hills going straight up form the beaches and a small road running behind.  Dropped anchor in the turquoise bay.  A hot, sunny day, swam, snorkelled rested to catch up on sleep and to get ready to go out with the other five BWR yachts in the bay to one of the two restaurants here.  Dinged over to the restaurant in the evening without hitting any coral as we came in.  Very good dinner a mixture of French and Polynesian food. Jonathan had the last crab with a wine sauce.  Today it is a bit cloudy, rained overnight but still hot, we are on 'Spirit of Nina' for dinner tonight.
No more now, so tough in paradise, we plan to rent a self drive jeep to explore the island.  More BWR yachts are arriving in the bay.
