BOZCAADA LIMANI We arrived on the island of Bozcaada later the next morning. It used to be a military island and off limits but is now a beautiful tourist island used mainly by local tourists. At fist we dropped anchor in a bay just before the town and harbour but were shooed away by the army as it was too near their base. We then dropped anchor just outside the harbour. The reason we did not go into the harbour was that we are now minus our bow thruster…… The mooring line in the harbour of Canakkale had not dropped to the bottom before Jonathan turned on the bow thruster an it got sucked in sheering all the propellers. Bozcaada used to be known by the ancient name of Tends, home of Apollo the Mouse God and the Greek base for the battle of Troy. During Byzantine times huge granaries were built so that ships carrying grain to Constantinople could be unloaded here and grain ferried up the Dardanelles. The offspring and I took the dingy in to the village to have a look around and found it delightful with old Greek houses on one side and Turkish on the other side of the village, I have to admit the Greek side was much prettier. We did some wine tasting as the island is famous for it’s wines, we did chutney and jam tasting and cheese tasting. We then headed back to the yacht loaded with bottle of wine and chutneys. Jonathan and I went in for a look around later. We had seen Spiny lobsters in tanks so we enquired about the price but at almost £100 a lobster we decided we did not need them that badly. Below are some of the pictures of the village. It would be a great place to go back to for a couple of nights. On the water front was an old Ottoman castle that had been renovated in the 1960s. |
