TUSDAY 8/12/15

WE HAVE ARRIVED!! We crossed the line last night early morning at approx 03.33 hours. As we could not use the engine we came into the bay under sail and dropped the anchor for the night. Sadly beaten to the post, just, by ‘Blue Water Mooney’ who was flying a wapping great spinnaker all the way, switched off their AIS so we could not always see where they were and gave us radio silence when we called them up for a friendly chat when they were in view, not really cricket from our point of view. We don’t quite understand why she was rated so that we had to give her time when she had so many different types of racing sails and all we had was the Asymmetric. Never mind we were not in it for the race but would have been nice to have let Discovery have a cup for Hull no1 of the 58. Considering the mishaps that occurred we have done well, with weed drag and prop drag from the rope.

At about 7.30 this morning Jonathan dived down to look at the prop and to unwrap the spinnaker halliard from it. We then tried to start the engine which it did and the prop turned but with a knocking sound. We decided caution was the better part of valour and organised a tow into the marina this morning along side a large yacht/ship T pontoon to await a lift out to sort our prop. But first the ARC guys came out to greet us with some lovely Rum punch at about 10 am!!! This got us up and going into Caribbean time! Big clean up time now, laundry on, cleaning below decks and checking in. Jonathan believes we are not coming out on the hard at 14.00 hours tomorrow, lets hope this is not Caribbean time…….
Now off to have lunch!!
