30TH MARCH, 2019 BAY DES AQUILAS

This has to be one of the best bays we have anchored off. The sand was soft and white, the water crystal clear the bay was large and sheltered. A boat came over to us with a local Spanish, young couple on board who were from San Dominca and camping under license with a park warden on the beach to spend the night watching leather back turtles come up and lay eggs. Unfortunately none came as it is the wrong phase of the moon. We went ashore to watch the sun go down and have a beer with them, the warden wanted some sort of cash from us so we gave him a bit. We then saw blue flashing lights on a boat coming towards the bay and then towards Aqualuna, so we hopped into the dingy to go and see them. At first they wanted us to follow them in the yacht around to their quarters an hour away so we said ‘no’ it was too dark and we were tired and wanted to stay in the bay so eventually they conceded looked at our Dispatcho, took photos of our passports and phoned into head quarters after half an hour they left. They were the navy known as the ‘Amada’!!
Photos to follow when I am on wifi and not iridium.

Sunday, 31st March,
The following morning we went ashore and went for along walk along the beach, swam, relaxed and read, a few people were quite curious about us and the yacht and came over to ask questions. by 11 am the beach was really crowded with people brought in by boats, there are no roads as such in the park. We decided it was time to leave and get ready for our night sail to Isle a la Vache ten miles off Haiti.
I did the 10 - 2 am watch and J did the 2 - 6 am watch.
