Malcolm and Becky joined us on the yacht for a week having just spent a week in New York. We shifted over to anchor from the pontoon having washed down the yacht. We went in B and Ms rental car to a supermarket to stock up with food. Had dinner, very good, at Middletown Oyster Bar, that evening. Our fishing in this trip had been terrible due mainly to sagaso weed catching on the hooks, it must be hell for the commercial fishermen.
At 11.30 the next day we weighed anchor the wind was southerly at 20 knots we motor sailed through thick fog. Becky was given the job of sounding the fog horn. We arrived off Vineyard Haven at 17.55 and dropped anchor for the night. We had lobster on board.
The following morning it was early fog and then bright sunshine. We partly mothers and partly sailed to Nantucket dropping anchor .in Nantucket. We visited the whaling museum and looked around town and did a bit of fun shopping.
Dinner, which was very good, at Millie’s that evening. We thought we might visit the Great Harbour Yacht Club, but they were exceedingly unhelpful and unfriendly, it was closed shop to any visiting yachts men sadly.
The following morning Malcolm and Becky swam and messed around on one of the paddle boards. In the afternoon we caught a bus out to Seconset on the eastern side of the island and went for a delightful walk along the coastal path in front of some lovely houses and gardens. The walk was called ‘The Bluffs’.
Jonathan and Malcolm went through the wiring of the engine and the conclusion is that some of the wires and plug ins were too close to the engine and getting too hot and vibrating the plug in out. They are now hung up out of the way and so far so good. We are going to have to see if we can get a good YANMAR engineer in Newport to check it all through.
The following day we weighed anchor and sailed for Edgartown in Martha’s Vineyard.
