Day 18 (26/5) - Happy Birthday (me) and a chance to be on dry land with only 60nm to go. Yesterday ended well with a continuing southerly driving us nicely at 6-7kns, but gave way to a gentle breeze as the dawn arrived. A few hours easy motoring watching the islands of Faial and Pico gradually emerge and take form on the horizon and then closer views on the green fields and villages of the southern coastline. Customs quarantine and courtesy flags flying (in the appropriate order) we made the turn round the eastern edge of the island and upon Horta Marina . a very busy one at that. No chance of coming alongside the reception customs house, we were directed to raft up (3rd boat out) at the far end of the northern jetty. Customs clearance and formalities dealt with very efficiently, a chance to double celebrate birthday and dry land once again . although was it the land that sways up and down now?? Relax and a local bar for dinner snacks rounded off the evening before a long deep nights rest.

Position posting at 16:00 Mid-Atlantic time (GMT) 26/5
