Day 12 (20/5) - The south-westerly's finally gave way to a cold north westerly and then a very cold northerly gusting to 30kn to take us through the rest of yesterday and the dark cloud filled night with occasional rainstorms. Sea state built during the night which made sleeping less comfortable. Nevertheless, an eastward progression was maintained as the miles to destination diminished. During a gibe the port wheel chain broke (stainless steel again), followed by some greasy work to remove the offending chain avoiding any blockage for the night starboard wheel. Not a problem as we were only using the starboard wheel anyway. Night excitement as we passed a tanker (well clear) - adrift and making repairs. The AIS saw it make way before losing contact. A cold yellow sunlight brought the dawn creep over the horizon.

Position posting at 10:00 Mid-Atlantic time (GMT-3hrs) 19/5
