As hurricane Irma (Category 5) heads towards the Florida Keys after devastating the Carribbean Islands and north Cuba (we were there only a few months ago) with 185mph winds - panic began to set in that it would turn northward and travel up the east coast of Florida and into Georgia - Magic Friday would be at risk!!

A call to the marina to check the status - yes, mariners were on various boats making hurricane preparations. No choice but to dash out on my own (5hr drive) to secure Magic Friday. The 4-5 lane highways going north were packed with residents exiting Florida in advance of the hurricane.
Finally, arriving late afternoon - all quiet, light winds but already a higher than usual tide. Sufficient daylight to take the genoa down - no time to be lost! What a heavy sail (560 sq ft of canvas) and a struggle to flake and then get below. I was exhausted by night fall!
