Dawn came and went without any break in the dismal mist.at least magic Friday had sailed peacefully through the night and now just at the edge of the first shipping separation zones for New York harbour. A warship headed for Westport passed to the stern - at least using AIS in the thick foig helped identify its position. Thankfully, the cloud lifted, just a few hundred feet to reveal a very busy shipping separation zone into New York and Newark .we decided to take the south Sandy Hook shipping channel, which appeared at lot quieter!

Rounding the sandy spit and into a quiet bay.a perfect spot to drop the anchor and rest. On the "hook" at Sandy Hook ..with a distant view to Manhattan and the downtown New York skyscrapers. A sail past the Statue of Liberty awaits us for another day!

Fiurst a chance to go ashore and explore the spit. a 9 mile, 1,665 acre barrier peninsular, part of the National Gateway Recreation Area. Fort Hancok (formerly a military base) and Sandy Hook Lighthouse (the oldest working lighthouse in the country) overlook the bay.. A game of beach boules amongst the birds scavenging the shoreline for food.

The bbq alight as the sun drops below the horizon to end a perfect day "on the hook"!
