Day 10 - Bahamas Cruising (South Bimini Island)

25:42.1N
79:18.3W
A
morning stroll along the "Queens Highway" (runs parallel to the "Kings Highway)
- essentially the only two roads on the island. Along the western shore of
pristine, shell strewn beach. Enjoying Alice Town at a slow pace - keeping clear
only of the golf carts. Intending to visit the museum - but closed, so past the
Dolphin House - owned by Ashley Saunders (a school teacher and historian), past
ruins of The Complete Angler hotel (Hemingway's old haunt) which burnt to
the ground in 2006, the "End of the World Sand Bar" (clsoed) - and back to
the museum - but unfortunately it remained resolutely closed all morning.
Time to slip the lines and leave Bluewater marina for the last time. A
short motor out into the bay of South Biminia Island and drop the anchor once
again - in fact both anchors (just in case) - we didn't want a repetition of
"bump bump" in the night again (on the beach at low tide)! Evening bbq, 3 giant
dolphins (8ft lomg) swim gracefully by under the boat as we watched
the storm clouds roll by over the Gulf
Stream.... Phil and Di |
