A last goodbye to the Bahamas as we prepare to leave our anchorage off South Bimini Island and head back to the U.S. No more "island time' - put the wrist watch back on. Sea planes departing as well. By mid-morning the anchors were hauled and we were away - trying to time this journey's leg for high tide in Fort Pierce on Friday.  What a sail, soon into the Gulf Stream with an easterly 10-12kn wind and a very strong northerly current flow - speed over ground touched 10kn even though our speed through the water was 6-7kn - the current flow giving us a good lift toward our destination. And then - the highlight ---> a sighting of two whales! Log entry of position and simply the word: "Fantastic" - what else could it be. They were 30-40ft from the boat (fortunately), heading south, not huge - maybe 10-15' long - species still to be identified - but most definitely a highlight of many of our journeys. Thence on into the night, sundowners under sail, cooked curry as darkness fell and the finger-moon hide behind clouds. Wind dropped by late evening - so motoring to finish the day...
