Day 21 - Bahama Cruising (Berry Islands - Great Harbour Cay Marina)

25:44.8N
77:51.6W
Dawn brought with it one rain storm - keeping us off the bank until visibility improved. Those clouds again - this time we decided they were "cumulus-wet-us" as the rain was brief but heavily. Then a course for Great Harbour Cay - knowing that this was going to be as challenging - no sight of the entrance until the last minute, the bank depths allowing us only 3-6" beneath the keel - no margin for error! We found the cut and started to head through - only to be met by another motor launch leaving - no possibility of waiting we had to pass port-to-port in a very narrow entrance - a worrying time!! Once inside - a delightful sanctuary (reportedly the safest harbour in the Bahamas). Friendly neighbours catch our lines and welcome us to this hidden gem (although the advertised pool looked a little green - not for swimming as was Chub Cay's infinity pool - and yet, strangely the bar looked unmanned (and un-stocked) as was Chub Cay. No matter, time to relax, catch up on sleep and let the rainstorms pass over! Apparently a bush fire was raging on the small island - so some rain was a relief - most fo the locals (including the mariner manager) were away fighting the fire. For us, only a small fire on the dockside to bbq salmon for dinner (thunderstorms permitting)! Phil and Di |
