Yet another damp, misty morning .. Will it clear by mid-morning (our planned departure)? Not according to the dock-master, although a few miles offshore may be clear, this is the worst weather he has seen in 18 years! Slipped lines and away - a little trouble raising the bridge master (possible VHF transmission issue), but eventually he got the message and we were through and underway - out to see in very low visibility conditions. % miles offshore, 10 miles offshore - still no improvement, so set sail and course for Sandy Hook and blow the fog horn occasionally!

As evening fell upon us, the cold, damp mist persisted. Although a hot bowl of chili-con-carne helped! Vessels, identified on AIS slipped invisibly passed with no sight of navigation lights, only a faint rumbling of engines in the dense grayness beyond our vision. The night crept on slowly, a gentle breeze filling the wet sails..
