Another day on the dockside, after a very stormy night of heavy rain and 25+ knot winds blowing across the marina. No weather window for taking the outside route around Cape Hatteras (renowned for a dangerous passage in heavy winds against the Gulf Stream).
So, more investigation into taking the ICW northward for 200nm and into Portsmouth/Norfolk VA. The main concern being stories of the channel littered with fallen tree stumps from the hurricanes of last year - still to be cleared. Messages back from another of our yachting friends (currently just a day north of us) indicate that the route was clear when they transited last fall; another yacht leaving our marina today will be taking the same passage and the Army Corps of Engineers plus Active Captain all point toward a slow but possible passage.
An evening stroll across from the marina to a local restaurant bar "Tall Tales" - very quiet on a Monday evening, but a good selection of fish - grouper, flounder, catfish, blue merlin and trout!
