Day 19 - Bahamas Cruising (Berry Islands - Chub Cay)

25:24.8N

Time
to move on....the winds looked reasonable for a passage back across the Bahama
Bank, out through the Flemings Channel, across the NE Providence Channel passing
north of Nassau and over to the Berry Islands - no fixed destination .... we
waited to see "where the winds took us"! First
a clean down of the boat - swarms of small flying insects had arrived, dropped
their wings and mating! Hopefully these were not termites! Anchor
weighed and away at high tide, out of the narrow entrance of the Bay and
once again into the clear, turquoise water of the bank. Water maker on to top up
fresh water tanks. A good sail to Fleming Channel, more challenging to pass
through the shoals in a strong headwind but we made it. Decision to head for
Chub Cay (south berry Islands) for the easiest sailing route. But knowing we
would arrive int he dark for an anchorage we knew from last
year. In
the darkest of nights (no moon) we crept in - avoiding a mega-yacht to
port and the marker bouys to starboard. Anchor away....oh a call on the VHF from
"Mustang Sally" (the mega-yacht) - apparently they had "plotted" their anchor
position and we were on top of it...well, after a courteous discussion we
elected to re-set the anchor a little further away - but in shallower water. No
problem, re-set, 2nd anchor dropped and we were settled
in.
