Day 4 - Florida - Bahamas

26:20.9N
78:29.8W
Spent
the morning tracing a problem with the head (marine toliet) not flushing - fully
dismantled - a broken drive belt - oh dear.... Well, Di did want to clean the
toilet sometime!! A ride to a local auto parts store (open on Sunday) to see if
they could help. A possible temporary solution by gluing the broken belt to an
o-ring with a rubber adhesive. Leaving time for the glue to set we slipped lines
at 15:00 to catch the high tide and leave for Nassau. A perfect afternoon
northerly 10-15 knot wind set us on a good course for Nassau - 120nm away.
Evening came and so did the sundowners followed by cooked dinner on the way. We
kept a broad reach throughout the route even as the wind veered easterly -
paying attention to all the cruise liners, tankers, cargo vessels and ferries
cutting the corner on Berry Island en-route to. from Bahamas or the U.S. - a
busy night to keep us awake on watch! |
