The days are getting (exponentially) shorter!! But plenty of sunshine and clear blue sky for a short train ride into Salem. "Follow the red line" was the Tourist Information guide's wise words - painted on the sidewalk to help visitors find the local attractions!! First on the list was the Witch History Museum. an interesting story / cyclorama show of the witch trials back in 1692 - 20 people were executed (19 hung, 1 crushed), 14 of whom were women. Mass hysteria gripped the town as accusers pointed fingers at many innocent people. Lunch at the "Finz" restaurant overlooking Pickering's Wharf where traders and sailors brought the riches of the Far East to America. Continuing the "red line" to a tour inside the House of Seven Gables (1668) - the seaside mansion associated with Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic novel (also author of The Scarlet Letters). A walk back to the station through the shopping mall of numerous "witch" themed shops ended the day in Salem!
