Day 22 - Bahama Cruising (Berry Islands - Great Harbour Cay Marina)

A lazy morning to catch up on sleep - slightly disturbed with more rainstorms. However, the clouds dissipated and we were ready to explore a new island. Bike out, running gear on, armed with a map of the one road - off we set towards the beach on the eastern side. Passing some prosperous beach villas, the beach club and bar and yes...a shop Di found to buy postcards - on to the island's end and "Shell Beach / Shark Cove" - pristine and deserted! Not many shells and fortunately no sharks - we paddled and took in the glorious scenery. Time to run/bike back - covering just under 6 miles in total in mid-80'sF heat and a few small hills! Rest on the boat was short lived as we were invited to play "Petanque" or better known as French boules with several other marina vacationers (some of whom clearly had been practicing having been here for a couple of months)! Slightly different rules of play to our wooden boules game, the jack (or "Cochonnet - a pig) was wooden whilst the balls were heavy metal - we soon caught on and thoroughly enjoyed the game and the rum punch served afterwards. As night fell, a dockside bbq rounded the energetic day Phil and Di |
