Day 7 - Brunswick GA - Florida (Cape Canaveral)

29:29.8N
81:01.5W
A
leisurely start - waiting on high tide at mid-day before slipping our mooring
bouy and gingerly creeping out. Confirmation from "SeaTow" that all the bouys
were in place - we maneuvered into the channel - not too bad (no
breaking waves on the sandbanks) and manageable wave heights to keep on course.
Within the hour we were in deep water and away south. Then came the discovery of
yet more water under the galley bilge – our own deep water inside the
boat(!)....and apparently a reported dead fish floating in it! Thankfully,
the "dead fish" was only a wet paper towel floating in the water!!!
Nevertheless. four buckets bailing in an hour - was there a serious hull
problem? The water was not as salty as would be expected direct from the
sea - and it was a lot dirtier! Deciding to carrying, the bailing got less
and discovery fo the water from an internal bulkhead helped assessing the
problem. Eventually, the bailing slowed and stopped - no new water ingress. But
still the real source not yet known - perhaps a leaking water maker pipe used
last year in the Bahamas? We will have tot ry later and experiment. Back to the
route - a favourable north-easterly at 10-12 knots gave us a pleasant
sail throughout the day until evening set in. As the sun slipped beneath the
horizon, sundowners were served, the wind dropped so we motored into
the darkness - only Jupiter to light the way until the moon rose ,just
before midnight. A quiet night, no shipping, nothing to disturb the
momentum of 3 hour watches.... Phil and Di |
