Another run and bike with Di to finish off 9 miles in historic downtown Brunswick - visiting Hannover and Wright squares! Then, deciding on a "day-off" we set off on a coastal run towards Darien. Finding a rice plantation historic site : Hofwyl Plantation - set in the grandeur of the ageless Live Oaks draped in Spanish Moss - some as old as 500-800 years along with huge Magnolia trees, we toured the grounds, outbuildings, slaves quarters and finally the plantation house itself. Although not grand from the outside - the inside rooms have been maintained with the original fittings and furnishings that the Dent family had assimilated over 200 years. Not least of which - a Winchester rifle (kept in the bedroom wardrobe) that was used in the Civil War. The last rice was harvested in 1916 when it was turned over the dairy farming and finally ran by the surviving two sisters until all debts had been repaid. Passing through Darien and on to Crescent for a dockside seafood restaurant "The Fish Dock at Pelican Point" overlooking Sappelo Island - a delightful way to round of the day off!
