Slipped lines at 06:30 and left Bald Head
Island marina in the "civil twilight time" - closely followed by two other
motor launches. Set sail in a fresh but light north-easterly across Long
Bay towards Georgetown and Winyah Bay. Slipping past Little River Inlet,
Myrtle Beach high rise hotels and finally Murrel's Inlet with a full
rigged downward sail set - genoa poled out, full main and job filling
in to balance the boat. a quiet afternoon - time to read and sleep.
Sundowners at the Captians hour finished off the daylight. A tasty curry
dinner saw us into the night. As the Winyah Bay navigation lights appeard
on the horizon, sails furled and motoring in the dark into the inlet -
keeping well away from the breakwaters either side of the channel and
managing the cross waves. Anchor dropped at 22:30 slightly north of
the lighthouse outside of the channel for nightcaps and
sleep. |
