We were not planning a long trip the next day - just across the fjord entrance to Skudeneshaven on the island of Karmoy. Unfortunately it was raining again when we set off and the passage was beset by poor visibility and many ships coming and going to Stavanger. Luckily it was not a long passage and we were soon tying up to the quayside in the middle of the town. It was still raining though.

The next day the weather had improved and we were able to have a look round the old town and do some shopping, but the following day was wet and windy again and being Sunday everything was shut.

We had decided to use a North Easterly, forecast to come in on the Tuesday, to cross to Shetland so spent the day catching up on jobs. We were keen to refuel before leaving Norway as their boat diesel is quite a bit cheaper than both the UK and the other Scandinavian countries, however, although we knew there was fuel available, it was very unclear where the pump was located, so on Monday we went in search of it on foot. It proved very illusive as it was situated in the fishing harbour, which was fenced off behind locked gates and we explored various unsuccessful routes to gain admittance. When we finally located the pump, after using a fishing boat deck to get round the fence, it proved to be in a shed and not visible until we were standing next to it unless we were on the water. At least our mind was put at rest that we would be able to refuel at 5am the next morning as we were leaving.
