Moorglade's Voyage

Our position is 37:49.64N 50:19.32W

143Nm. ( We started our passage in Eastern
Daylight Time and as we are now about half way we thought we should start
adjusting to Azores Local Time. We are reduced the Midnight to 03:00 wathch to
two hours last night and will do so tonight and tomorrow night. That way, the
swings and rounderbouts of shortening that night watch, fall fairly between us.)
Apart from a brief spell last night when the wind
went light and we very nearly started the engine, we have been plodding along
close reaching into a 10 to 15 knot breeze making roughtly East. The weather is
fair and warm, the sea state just diturbed enough to keep the bow nodding
up and down like a rocking horses head with just the very occasional slam. Quite
easy going and a decent speed. We expect this to end by midday tomorrow, when a
light winds will force us to motor for quite a while before the more
southerly wind sets in.
I am told there are friends of John and Jim
following this blog in both New England and New Zealand who are not familiar
with Moorglade. I should introduce you to our two other crew members,
George and Gorgina. George has done all the steering so far. He's the strong and
silent type, stands as upright as possible consuming no food or beer, never
looses consentration. He's our Aries wind vane. Gorgina is an old Autohelm 3000,
dithers about quite a bit, never shuts up, but has her uses. I would like to
replace her when I get back to the UK but probably cannot afford the latest
model.
Thanks Ross for the update on Vivaldi, I'm not
surprised she is ahead of us as she is a 50ft Hinckley and left just a few
houirs after us. Silver Shoes report they are motoring and expect to have to put
into the Azores for fuel but have not given a position update.
Tom, I didn't perform well on the nautical quiz.
You have shattered my confidence, I probably should not be out here. I'm
enjoying the Theme Time Radio.
Food on board is well up to standard now conditions
permit. Pork tenderloin in barbeque sauce, a Wilson family favourite, with
mashed potatoes and cabbage in lemon juice, last evening for dinner and more of
Jim's legendary sanwiches for lunch today. There is now room in the fridge to
cool the beer as well.
