Steady sailing, close hauled on starboard tack, with the wind changing in strength and direction a little, seems to have become the norm for this trip, as it was for much of the sail to the Azores. So far so good, as we are still making for the channel under sail but no doubt the time will come when the engine must be started. Early this morning when Richard and John were recovering from their night watches, my concentration on the chartplotter was disturbed by the blowing of a whale just about 20 meters to starboard. It turned out there where two, cruising along with us for some time. The two off watch crew came up to watch them. Their behaviour was predictable enough, and at times they were close enough to take pictures. Not the best but proof enough.

As I was about to send this there was a cry of "whales" from the cockpit. A couple of clear sightings of the same large species, certainly over 40ft, Richard estimate this mornings pair at 60 ft, but no photo opportunities. A good day for whales!
