Friday 20th July.

Today we have an easy passage leaving our mooring in Scituate Harbour by 10:45 expecting to need the engine all the way as the wind is light it's quite cool with high overcast.
Boston Harbour is protected by a lot of outlying islands. The bay is shallow in parts and generally rocky. Approaching from the South we rounded Point Allerton and then took the Narrows into President Roads. The channel is then wide and deep into the harbour, which was busy but not as frantic as New York. There seemed to be room for everybody freighters, ferries, tripper boats, yachts and sailing dinghies. Kirsty had reserved a mooring off Long Warf which is home to the Marriot Hotel and the New England Aquarium. We were right in the centre of downtown Boston.
There was time for a walk ashore to get our bearings and see a few of the sights before Kirsty's friend from Ethiopia came aboard for a predinner drink. The town was busy on a warm Friday evening with both visitors and people coming out for after work drinks. We found a nice Italian for dinner and then strolled back to the marina and a short dinghy ride back to Moorglade. Looking back from the cockpit to the Boston skyline at night was impressive.

Saturday. 21st July

This morning Kirsty was leaving to stay with Elizabeth in Boston for the weekend and then fly to Washington DC to stay with another friend from Ethiopia, returning briefly to Moorglade on Wednesday evening before flying off to San Francisco for a week and then back to Moorglade again for a cruise North before returning to the UK. I just have to make sure Moorglade is in the right place at the right time.
I stayed in Boston to have a look round and use the marina's laundry. While walking over the bridge to see USS Constitution, Kirsty rang to say I was invited to dinner by Ted and Emilie. So after doing the navy museum I sorted out the route on the T (metro) and headed for Davis Square. We had a very pleasant evening drinking and eating in the garden and had lots to talk about. Ted had played Rugby Union when he was at MIT in the 60's, they had both worked in England in the 70's and, as they were not sailors, were curious about how you get so far in a small sail boat. Quite a late night, but I knew I could lie in in the morning but would probably have to stay another day to get the washing done.
