We planned a short day for Thursday and other CA members often recommend Klintholm so that was our planned destination. Within the harbour at Hesnaes conditions had been calm and there was little wind, but once outside and clear of the wall the wind proved to be 15kn and the sea was quite choppy. However once the sails were up and the engine off we were soon bowling along under reefed main and reduced genoa at 6kn, enjoying the sail in the sunshine. Our first week and a half, while we were in Fehmarn had been cold and at time very wet, so to have 2 days in a row with warm sunshine seemed too good to be true.

  Approaching Klintholm

Fishing nets in the approaches to the harbour

Having successfully negotiated the many fixed fishing nets near the harbour entrance we were soon tying up alongside on the smart wooden jetty marked 12-15m! Before long several German boats arrived and some Dutch, but we were pleased to have got our towels on the pontoon first. The reports had talked of a friendly harbourmaster living on site, but we saw no-one and paid our dues and obtained our outboard fuel entirely with the use of automatic machines. A short walk took us to a convenient shop for fruit and cakes for tea, and then it was back to the boat for tea, cake and catch up on the rest of the world with the reasonable free wifi. We walked back by a different route which took us along the pontoon from the far end, so it took a little while as we had to stop and chat to all the other sailors, including an interesting Swede who was writing a book about his voyage round the Baltic including sailing through the winter months. He had a Russian heater on his boat, which he said was the best.

  The empty harbourmasters office

The fishing harbour was next door

Moorglade was at the end of this jetty. The boat coming in was doing it at speed and seemed to be training the crew, to the consternation of the Dutch guy on the boat in front. It made for exciting viewing.

The harbour is surrounded by what seemed to be an attractive development of holiday apartments, but most of them were unoccupied so caused no disturbances. A peaceful night was followed next morning by a sunshine and breakfast in the cockpit and a leisurely departure for our next destination.
