Our Position is 38:05.70N
45:52.95W
Distance logged in the last 22 Hours
126Nm (Changing our ships time to bring it in line with Azores time has
caused a bit of confusion in the log but from now we should be back to 24 hour
daily run)
The wind predictions yesterday suggested there was
quite a shortfall on the number of days fuel we have left and the number of days
we might need to motor, so we felt obliged to sail if at all possible
resulting in slow progress and slatting sails. Today's grabs look a little
more hopeful in terms of calms but the direction of the lightish winds is far
from helpful, so it is not going to be plain sailing. It
is frustrating that the excellent progress made earlier is being frittered
away. We got a decent sail late yesterday but the wind died away at night and we
had to motor until late morning when we set the cruising shute on a beam reach
in light airs.
Life aboard is easier of course, the standard of
meals and the appetite for them improves with quieter weather. This morning we
were surrounded by a large school of dolphins and the other sighting has been
the occasional turtle swimming by. About 4 have swam close by and could be
clearly identified. I did not realise they swam out here. What do they eat, I
thought they were vegetarian and there is not much sea weed about.
As I type the wind is backing and we are carrying
white sails, sheeted in to make our line to Flores. I expect to be pushed North
as the wind tends to the East.
Mustn't grumble it is a hot, 28C with a blue sky
and fluffy cumulus.
