Presently anchored in the lee of French Cay, an uninhabited scrap of coral and sand on the SW of Caicos Bank. We dropped the hook at 09:20 after a tough sail from Ocean World Marina. After a slow start with light winds, once clear of D.R. the wind picked upand the rarely fell below twenty knots and most watches had several heavy rain squalls with wind speeds up to 35knots. It was in the first of these when the genoa was poled out that we snapped our second pole. The seas in this region seem particularly unpleasant being steep breaking and confused.
The only other indecent was with a freighter which when engaged on the VHF thought that despite the fact that he was overtaking a sailing yacht, he was the stand on vessel. He sought advice from his superiors and they put him right.
We are now ready to head over the bank to Sapardilla Bay.
