The next morning Moonlight Sail left early as Marshall and Susan wanted to go home and race their Harbour 20 in the Annapolis YC’s club series before rejoining us in the evening. We wrestled with the marina wifi for a bit before giving up and heading South again. There had been a warning on the radio about a ship transporting 4 large cranes transiting the Bay Bridge around 13.30 and sure enough as we approached the bridge just before that time it appeared on the other side going extremely slowly and surrounded by small motor boats as everyone came out for a view of whether it was going to get stuck. They closed the bridge to traffic so drivers were not distracted by the view of it as they crossed over.

The ship was probably the most interesting part of the voyage as there was no wind and we motored all the way. It was very hot and we have the choice of having the sunshade up or deploying the mainsail. In those conditions it's a no brainer. The immediate approach to the anchorage was enlivened by the presence of an (unmarked) shallow patch that used to be an island but we negotiated it safely and tied up to Phil and Mary Sue on Encore, where we were immediately plied with Sangria and nibbles before going for a swim off the boat. Joe and I satisfied ourselves round Moorglade but Ted struck off to the raft containing Bob and Joy’s Liberty, where he was refreshed with a glass of Bob's excellent home brew before returning to our raft , where we had been joined by Eileen and Rob together with their rescue terrier Teddy on their beautiful, lovingly restored, Dutch built  Mi Sueno, for a delicious supper cooked by Mary Sue and Eileen. After we had eaten, Mi Sueno departed to take the dog ashore and Marshall and Susan arrived as darkness was falling, having come second in the club race.

It really looks weird from all angles                                                                                Will it get stuck?
