Since setting off from English Harbour yesterday
morning we have had quite mixed conditions. Passing Guadeloupe the wind went
light and round to SSE which meant we had to motor, but fortunately as night
fell and we were passing Dominica the wind returned and went back into the east
so we were bowling along at 6-7 knots and I entertained hopes of arriving on
Monday morning.
We had a close encounter with a little coaster
carrying gas tanks first thing this morning but they changed course before I had
to radio them. Now the wind has come round towards the south again and we are
sailing close hauled which is affecting the speed. If we can't go faster than
this soon we won't arrive until after dark on Monday.
It's very hot and the sea state doesn't make for
easy living below, but we'll carry on plugging along. There isn't really
anywhere to stop off now until we reach our destination.
