On Saturday the wind had dropped and gone back into the east and the sun was shining. We had breakfast in the cockpit and then booked the apartment in Fehmarn for the laying up period and changed the ferry booking while we still had a convenient internet connection and then set off for the final leg of our 2016 cruise.

We had some good sailing once leaving the channel and sighted a seal. Later the wind fell away and we found ourselves apparently in the middle of a NATO exercise as well as surrounded by commercial shipping but we negotiated it successfully and were soon motor sailing along Fehmarn’s south coast and into the harbour. Needless to say the wind got up just as when we didn’t need it, but we managed to successfully tie up to the tricky booms they use at Burgstaaken.

Lift out was planned for Monday so Sunday was a busy day of preparing the boat. Fortunately there were no other British boats around to distract us. Laying up was completely uneventful and by the end of the week we were heading back to the UK after a successful season’s cruise.
