Monday was a busy day doing all the laundry, tidying the boat, washing down the decks and catching up on sleep. Joe returned in the evening ready for an early start on Tuesday.

Joe was our guide to see Washington DC on Tuesday and Wednesday. two days were obviously not enough to see the sights and tour the museums and galleries of this prestigious city, so our brief to Joe was to enlighten us about government and see that which can only be seen in DC. Joe has spent much of his working life in government offices on "The Hill" so he was the right man for the job. We did the tourist tour of the Capitol building on Tuesday along with the White House and monuments, and on Wednesday Joe got passes to watch proceedings of both the Senate Chamber and The House of Representatives from the gallery. His understanding of the real working of government and his patience and humour when answering Kay's endless questions made the capital come alive. Thanks Joe.

We also found time to visit some non-political places - The Newseum (all about how news is gathered, journalists and news from the past as well as the development of different media for news - very interesting and impressive), The Air and Space museum (still had something to add after Kennedy Spac Centre) and the American Indian museum, with a special display about horses in America.
