We have had a good 24 hours sailing with the twin headsail set and no mainsail, as can be seen from the miles covered. We felt justified in taking the route from the east of Cape Verde islands and during the night passed the main part of the archipelago. At one stage we had contemplated stopping on the islands to replenish our fuel, but when Ted looked at the possibilities this action was discounted as there would have been severe delays on immigration requirements and difficulty with paying by credit card etc etc - so Ted decided that we should proceed particularly as we do have in excess of half a tankful plus 2 additional cans strapped on deck.

Fishing activity continued without success yesterday and we are well aware that Friday is "fish day" - so hopefully this afternoon will  be more productive!

We have now put in our waypoints for the route to Bridgetown, Barbados and have adjusted our sails (mainsail and cruising shute to be able to meet our westward direction and are now cruising at 5.5 knots in a slightly reduced wind. Reports from Kay back at base (thanks, Kay) suggest that winds may be slighter this weekend but look good for the rest of next week. John has calculated that we have now passed the half way mark from Star Cross (Moorglade's home port) to Barbados - we only took 4 months to do the first part - we hope the remainder will take less!!

Normal activities resume during the day - today it was my turn to make the bread - I think that my mother would have been proud although somewhat mystified (I did try to remember how it should be kneaded) - the results were good (so everyone said!).

Ted cooked Brittany Trawler Hash last night - made with corned  beef - very tasty and served with cabbage (delicious with added lemon juice) - all agreed a great result, particularly as it was served with a Portuguese red rioja (to celebrate our day's run). This was followed by banana and custard.
