The grib files that we recieved at lunchtime
yesterday showed the rather narrow weather window we had to get to Porto Santo
had just got narrower and we were going to get caught in 30kt head winds for at
least the last 12 hours of our passage. Not a good prospect, so we tuned round
and headed back to Cascais, feeling frustrated and rather fed up.
The only bonus was that shortly after our about
turn, we all saw whales. as they seem to be of different sizes we assume that
there was a few of them heading south.
We arrived here in the dark at about 9:30 and after
the mandatory check in with security we went back to the berth we had left
14hours earlier and Glen cooked a meal.
This morning has been spent liasing with Kay
to come up with a new plan, checking flights, shopping and refuelling
Moorglade.
The new plan is for Glen, Peter and I to sail
down to Sines tomorrow, wait for the bad weather to pass through on Friday and
then aim for Lagos, arriving, we hope, late on Saturday
evening.
Lagos will then be the departure point for us to
sail straight to the Canaries.
