Not a bad days run considering the forecasted light air conditions. An
average of 5.45 knots. I guess we have been lucky, getting more wind from a more
favourable angle than the gribs initially indicated. In two days, however, they
predict we fall into a big old hole with absolutely nothing, narda!! Even that
may be good; we'll be able to motor down a direct course
line without even a breath of easterly headwind.
England must be having the summer of all summers. Our shore based crew,
Kay, who is also monitoring and adding her comments on the GRIB files for us,
obviously has no appreciation of our desperate and growing desire to
get at that first pint of British Bitter. Now she knows we are safe
and there is no concern about weather conditions out here, (which
currently are a bit like sailing on Buzzards Bay), she is only desirous
that the weather in Old Blighty continues as is, even though it provides us no
hope of any westerly's.
Still things could be much worse and to tell the truth we are
making reasonable progress. Our 3 on, 6 off 'watch cycle' works well
and mindlessly. One day runs uneventfully into the next without knowing which
day of the week it is or the date. We have absolutely no idea of current
events ashore but trust we would somehow hear if life as we know it changed
significantly. The company aboard is good and though the stories are
running thin or being retread, we are eating well and all are happy. Life in our
small cocoon under Captain Ted is a rather pleasant change from the norm. Having
said that it would still be great to drop in on my mates at a 'coffee clutch' in
Marion; see first hand how our shipmate Jim is doing and how his stories have
developed.Chris's disparaging comments would also be entertaining relief.
Of course there is a lot of conversation about missed wifes and family and
I, for one, am much looking forward to meeting Trav in the UK where we will
spend the month of August based in our old home of Topsham.
Best wishes to all.
