On Thursday 7th June I made the 40 Nm passage to Solomon Island and in so doing moved from Virginia to Maryland. The passage was uneventful and fine weather made it a pleasant trip.
After a look round some of the mooring options at Solomons Island I dropped the hook just near the little triangular island at the start of Back Creek and Mill Creek. It proved to be quite a lively spot with plenty of comings and goings over the weekend and a bar close by on shore. It made a change from the isolation of my previous anchorage and it all quietened down by bedtime.
My first priority for Friday morning was a trip to Westmarine and the supermarket. This was achieved by taking the dinghy a mile or so up Back Creek leaving it at the Holiday in dinghy dock and walking a mile to the shops.
The rest of the time there was spent going through spares, trying to reduce the clutter that seems to accumulate cleaning and polishing and minor repair jobs. I did treat myself to a couple of nights on one of Zahnisers Marina's mooring buoys, so I could take advantage of there facilities. Laundry was now a priority. I chatted to a couple ashore off another yacht on the moorings. Later they invited me over for dinner. Jim and Terry were excellent company and the shrimp dish that Terry cooked was delicious. It was late when I sculled back to Moorglade.

Solomons is home to a very diverse range of boats.
These power boats seem to particularly like the sound of their throaty V8's
